Not Just Guitar Accessories – Tree Monkey is Fast Online

We’ve been doing some pretty hard work here at Tree Monkey to get our site optimized for performance. It looks like we may be on to something.

This obviously

WebPageTest.com

This was the hardest one to please. Following their guidelines to get move everything to the A column was time consuming, but not that hard. But getting the first bite time improved involved testing multiple hosts and CDN providers.

TTFB (time to first byte) was a hard nut to crack. It has nothing to do with guitar capos. It involved a lot of perseverance and testing of multiple solutions.

GTMetrix.com

This was probably the easiest to please. Whilst webpagetest.com and Page Speed Insights both, at times, pointed out that the slight was struggling to reach snail’s pace, GT Metrix always had us doing OK.

Whilst being the easiest to please, perhaps they play guitar, it was satisfying to get to these levels.

That notwithstanding, we were pretty please to be able to get such a high score.

Google Page Speed Insights

We found PSI to be very fickle. Results varied often and in a short space of time. They also seem very slow to pick up on new hosts, pulling results for an old site for quite some time. But, if Google doesn’t like your page you’re probably going to have problems at some point.

Constantly changing results made it tough to gauge where we were at, but again perseverance paid off.

Next up, SEO.
